  • Hospice and Palliative Care

Hospice care includes palliative care and addresses the patient’s physical, emotional, and spiritual needs as well at end of life stages. Hospice can help with such daily activities as administering medications, bathing, and dressing, but hospice does not provide full time caregivers. Hospice requires that a willing, able and available caregiver be in the home, unless alternate arrangements are made.

Palliative care is also focused on relieving symptoms associated with the patient’s condition while receiving active treatment.

There are some specific needs that veterans may have during the end of life and it may be helpful to enlist the services of an organization that is designed for this specific care. One example is:

www.WeHonorVeterans.org We Honor Veterans. It is an oversight organization for Hospice and Palliative Care collaborations. They provide information that can help lead you to an end of life care team based on your specific needs. To find a Hospice or Palliative Care team for your needs, visit their link at: https://www.wehonorveterans.org/about/frequently-asked-questions/ or contact them at https://www.wehonorveterans.org/contact/

When seeking care, ask all questions that may assist the veteran and your family. When your questions are answered in timely, considerate ways, then that may be a good place to start making decisions for their support.

VFU does not endorse any organization. We provide up-to-date information and suggest that you always consult your personal care team when making decisions for your well being.
