COLORADO Veteran & Family Resources
Colorado Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA)
https://dmva.colorado.gov/
The Colorado Department of Military and Veterans Affairs serves as the state’s primary agency supporting veterans, service members, and their families. Through a statewide network of County Veterans Service Officers, the DMVA provides hands-on assistance with VA disability claims, pensions, survivor benefits, burial assistance, and appeals. These local offices play a critical role in helping veterans navigate both state and federal benefit systems and ensure they receive all compensation and services they are eligible for. The department also helps connect veterans with additional state programs, including education assistance and veteran home and cemetery services, making it a central access point for support across Colorado.
VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System
https://www.va.gov/eastern-colorado-health-care/
The VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System provides comprehensive medical services to veterans across the state, including primary care, mental health treatment, rehabilitation, specialty care, and geriatric services. Major facilities include the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center in Aurora and multiple outpatient clinics throughout Colorado. The system also offers telehealth services, allowing veterans in rural or remote areas to access care without extensive travel. Specialized programs support chronic conditions, service-connected disabilities, and aging-related health needs, ensuring veterans receive continuous, veteran-centered care throughout their lives.
VA Western Colorado Health Care System
https://www.va.gov/western-colorado-health-care/
The VA Western Colorado Health Care System provides medical services for veterans in the western region of the state, including Grand Junction and surrounding communities. Services include primary care, mental health care, rehabilitation, long-term care support, and specialty programs tailored to veterans’ needs. The system also offers outpatient clinics and telehealth services to improve access for rural veterans. This network is especially important for ensuring that veterans in more remote areas of Colorado receive consistent and accessible healthcare services close to home.
U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs – Denver Regional Office (Benefits)
https://www.va.gov/denver-va-regional-benefit-office/
The Denver Regional Office of the VA administers federal benefits for veterans and their families throughout Colorado. This includes disability compensation, VA pension programs, education benefits, home loan guarantees, and survivor benefits. Veterans can file claims, check application status, and receive assistance with appeals through accredited representatives and veteran service organizations. The office works closely with state and county veterans service officers to ensure claims are properly developed and supported, helping veterans access the financial and service-based benefits they have earned through military service.
Colorado Area Agencies on Aging / State Unit on Aging (CDHS)
https://cdhs.colorado.gov/our-services/older-adult-services
Colorado’s Area Agencies on Aging, coordinated through the Colorado Department of Human Services, provide statewide support services for older adults, including veterans and surviving spouses. These services include caregiver support, meal programs, transportation assistance, in-home care coordination, and long-term care planning. While not exclusive to veterans, these programs often serve as a key access point for aging veterans seeking support to remain independent at home. A major veteran-specific connection within this system is the Veterans Directed Care (VDC) program, which partners with the VA to allow eligible veterans to manage their own care budgets and hire personal caregivers, including family members in many cases. This integration between state aging services and VA programs helps improve independence, reduce caregiver strain, and expand access to flexible home-based care options.

Colorado Patriot Scholarship

In 2008, Colorado Technical University created a scholarship to give back to those whose lives have been altered due to injury while serving in the United States Armed Forces. For many, the impact of an injury reaches farther than the service member alone. That’s why CTU annually awards the scholarship to fifty eligible wounded service members, their spouses, non-medical attendant or caregiver and dependents.
